Details of How the Tiger Orchestra Will Be Conducted

Tiger Woods is set to speak at the clubhouse at TPC Sawgrass tomorrow morning at 11am.  According to his agent Mark Steinberg, Woods will "start making amends" which will likely include an apology of some sort, a discussion of his past, and potentially some mention of his future plans.

Woods will deliver these remarks in a room with one pool camera, a reporter from each of the three major wire services - AP (presumably represented by Doug Ferguson), Reuters (Mark Lamport-Stokes), and Bloomberg (Mike Buteau, who broke the story of the announcement).

In addition, Steinberg left it up to GWAA President Vartan Kupelian to determine three other reporters that would also serve as "pool reporters" for the event.  Steve Elling had originally disclosed that those reporters are Kupelian, ESPN's Bob Harig (who lives in Florida), and Mark Soltau, the man who runs Tiger Woods' website and reports for Golf Digest, who has an instructional materials contract with Woods.

As of approximately 8:30pm ET this evening, the board members of the Golf Writers Association of America voted overwhelmingly not to participate in the reporter pool tomorrow.  Jon Show at Sports Business Journal sent messages about the vote on Twitter.  19 to boycott, 4 not, and three to abstain.

Vartan Kupelian said, “The position, simply put, is all or none. This is a major story of international scope. To limit the ability of journalists to attend, listen, see and question Woods goes against the grain of everything we believe.”

As has been repeated, Woods will not take questions on camera, though it seems possible that Woods may speak with the pool reporters for a brief time after his remarks - albeit off camera.

The pool reporters will share their notes and observations with other credentialed media that have either requested that information electronically, or will non-pool media that will be gathered at the Sawgrass Marriott near the clubhouse where Woods will speak.

The event is being handled largely by ETW Corporation, which Stephanie Wei and I have previously reported on as Woods' private corporation to handle a host of business matters such as this one.

With all of those known details disclosed, it still seems like a fluid situation.  The PGA Tour said that they offered the clubhouse to Woods without any questions and knowledge of the remarks Woods intends to make.  Reporters who have been invited to cover the event in the pool have said they're not very certain of the details or schedule, aside from the 11am start time.

Further, what Woods will say is anyone's guess.  Several Clear Channel radio stations in North Carolina were claiming to have had a segment of Woods' prepared statement tomorrow.  Those reports have been declined by Woods' representation.

Rumors have also been surfacing today that Woods will announce his intention to play in next week's PGA Tour stop at TPC Scottsdale.  Those rumors were likely fueled by Mark Steinberg's comment that Woods' announcement could not wait until Monday.  The deadline to enter the Scottsdale event is 3pm Arizona time tomorrow.

Skeptics of that rumor suggest that the timing is intended to serve as payback to Accenture, which was the first Woods sponsor to drop him after his car accident and revelations of infidelity.  Tour players, including Ernie Els and Rory McIlroy, suggested such in public comments yesterday.

Others suggest that the standard public relations practice of announcing bad news on a Friday is what prompts the announcement.  Still, Woods could make such an announcement on any Friday.

We will see what Woods chooses to reveal at 11am tomorrow, and have coverage here at Waggle Room.
