Fox News, Golf Channel Big Winners for Tiger's Speech
Wondering where the most people got their Tiger Woods reading coverage? On cable, it was Fox News. They won among the cablers with 2.073 million people. ESPN was next best with 1.71 million, but their radio outfit had its biggest audience ever for a live stream.
As Media Bistro's TV Newser points out, some 700,000 people tuned in for Golf Channel's post-speech analysis. That means almost 700,000 people watched Charlie Rymer cry live. Yikes.
Anyhow, the sobfest was huge for Golf Channel. The ratings for the speech were an 1861% increase over their normal average for total viewers at this time slot.
The lesson for Golf Channel? Stop airing infomercials in the middle of the day and just replay the Tiger apology.
