President Obama Didn't Call Tiger, But Slick Willy Did
In a report that appears in this month's Golf Digest magazine, Jaime Diaz reported that Presidents Obama and Clinton phoned Tiger Woods to express their support for him. Today, Golf Digest retracted the Obama call from the story after the White House declined that call took place.
"An article in the April issue of Golf Digest incorrectly reported that President Obama made a personal call to Tiger Woods to offer encouragement," the magazine said in an e-mail sent out Monday. "Our mistake was due to a misunderstanding between the writer and a trusted source. We regret the error."
The original copy about the Commanders in Chief said:
President Obama also made a personal call to offer encouragement. So did Bill Clinton, whose experience might be particularly instructive.
Now it reads:
"I'm a strong believer that anybody can look within themselves, find their flaws and fix them," President Obama said. Bill Clinton, whose experience might be particularly instructive, made a personal call to offer encouragement.
The quote from President Obama is from a January interview that he did with People magazine.
President Clinton did make a phone call to Woods, though, according to ESPN.com.
It happens to everyone sometime.
