Scorned Orlando Writer/Parade Organizer Calls Tiger Bad Orlando Citizen

Since the day after Thanksgiving, a small section of Orlando has been saturated with media members trying to report on the Tiger Woods car accident & affairs/stalk him.  It has been quite a circus for the town, but the trains are still moving.  Having been there twice since the accident, it seems like the city is holding up just fine.

Now that Tiger is returning to golf, at least one writer at the Orlando Sentinel thinks that Woods owes the city he calls home.  Mike Bianchi penned a column with a titular question: What has Tiger Woods ever done for Orlando?

Bianchi expresses anger that Tiger will not make his return at either of the Orlando-based duo of the Tavistock Cup or the Arnold Palmer Invitational.  Fair, maybe, but Tiger paid his debt to the city and the community.  He paid for the fire hydrant, owes no medical bills to a public hospital, and is keeping to himself - just as he always has.

The whole column, though, is really just predicated on a grudge that Bianchi has held for a decade.  When Tiger won the Tiger Slam in '00-'01, Bianchi had the bright idea of throwing a ticker tape parade for him.  Woods, being the private person he is, declined.  Bianchi called that "arrogant" and jumps to the conclusion that Tiger cares not for O-town.  After all, his charity is based in California - Where he grew up! How dare he! - and has a tournament usually in DC.

With that mountain of evidence, it's no wonder that Tiger has got to be the worst citizen that Orlando has ever had.

Perhaps the more appropriate question is: Why does Tiger owe Orlando anything?

Update: Major League Jerk saw the same ridiculous post and went all Fire Joe Morgan on it.

Because Tiger makes and breaks tournaments

and when he doesn’t show up, sponsers and people run away.

I am not saying Tiger HAS to show up at every tournament but I understand why tournaments are a bit rejected when he doesn’t

Tiger is a force onto himself that the PGA desperately relies on.

The fault there lies with the PGA Tour...

not having some sort policy that mandated all tour members play all events in a certain time period.

Besides, this isn’t about a tournament. The complaint is Tiger isn’t a big enough booster for Orlando. As if he has to shout out to the 407 time he sinks a 20 foot putt.
